Poetry month has come and gone, but Jeremy Benson just won’t let the dog sleep. And thank God for that.
This spring, Benson started the Aloha Project - a push for a more common integration of poetry and everyday life. It’s a worthy cause, and the ship is helmed by a more than worthy captain.
Like the sharp quiet wit in his poetry, Benson runs Aloha the same way. Daily, he’ll write a poem on the back of a homemade postcard and send ‘em out. On his blog, he posts each postcard sent and each postcard received.
Do look at the site, and at least let the idea of submission simmer. Or, let it boil over. Either way Benson’s hard work and passion for communal poetic experience should be awarded.
Mr. Benson—
In honor of your dedication to the expansion of poetry in our everyday life, we are overjoyed to announce you our first ever HardTimesChicago Hooverville Arts and Culture Champion.
So let us raise a toast tonight, where ever we may be, in honor of Jeremy’s hard work with the Aloha Project. Find a suitable lover. Dance slowly. Let your hands find the small of their back. Lean in close. Whisper. ”You’re no Jeremy Benson.”
Congratulations, good sir. And thank you.
From all of us here at HardTimes.
