There’s a contrived musicologist somewhere who is compairing Dinosaur Jr.’s new album with the rise of President Barack Obama (TUMBLR still doesn’t recognize “Barack” or “Obama” in spell check - shoulda gone with xanga). Lurking somewhere in the dusty halls of academia, the musicologist is screaming: “the sound on Farm is so violent and painful! But it remains inspiring and joyous! Just like the position President Obama found himself in: he can inspire and bring joy to us liberals, despite the violent and painful years of the Bush administration! I’m so smart!” While I would never want to host a roundtable with this dork, he’s not entirely far from the truth.
That is sorta how this album sounds.

Iggy Pop “reformed” the Stooges because J. Mascis already did. Regardless of Dinosaur Jr.’s bizarre history, Mascis reformed the Stooges. And here’s an album by the guy’s real band. And it’s great.
