HardTimes for that “Tycoon of Teen” Phil Spector. The 68 year old music producer was convicted of second degree manslaughter, and could face up to 18 years in the pen.
The story by now is well known. Spector picked up Ms. Clarkson, the victim, at a House of Blues where she was working. They drink. He takes her home. A few hours later, he’s rushing out of the house telling his limo driver that he “may have killed somebody.”
The defense claims the limo driver heard Mr. Spector incorrectly, and that a lack of food and water clouded the driver’s judgement. I call weak defense.
Aside from being the greatest pop music producer of all time, Spector has always had a passion for fire arms. He pulled a gun on the Ramones when they grew tired of playing the same opening chord of “Rock and Roll High School” for eight hours straight. He pulled another bean shooter on John Lennon after the two had been drunkenly bickering over his album Rock and Roll.
Would it be in poor taste to make a “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling” joke?
